About Tami
Movement has always been Tami's first language. Long before she founded Animas Classical Pilates, she was a dancer who understood instinctively that the body and mind are not separate things, but partners.
That connection never left her, even through a successful nineteen-year career in banking. When the world slowed in 2020, Tami found her way back to movement, and to Contrology, the original method developed by Joseph Pilates. What began as rediscovery became a calling.
A third-generation teacher of Mr. Pilates' work, Tami completed The Pilates Center's Advanced Teacher Training Program in Boulder, Colorado, an immersive course of study that took her two years and more than 1,000 hours to complete. The Pilates Center is one of the most respected classical training programs in the country. Her teaching is dynamic, alignment-focused, and rooted in the authentic classical method, exactly as it was meant to be practiced.
Tami's life beyond the studio is just as grounded in community. She serves on the board of a local bank and on the board of Shanta Village Partners, a nonprofit working to reduce poverty in rural Myanmar and Zambia. A Rotary member of 25 years, she and her husband have welcomed more than a dozen exchange students into their home over the years.
Now, with more time to devote to the work she loves, Tami brings that same warmth and dedication to every session at Animas Classical Pilates, sharing the remarkable benefits of this method with the Durango community, one client at a time.
About Classical Pilates
Unlike many modern interpretations, classical Pilates preserves the specific exercises, order, and apparatus Joseph Pilates designed, each building on the last. Tami trained in this tradition in the third-generation lineage of Romana Kryzanowska, the protégée Joseph Pilates entrusted to carry his work forward. What you experience here is the authentic method, taught with depth and fidelity, not a diluted version of it.
How Pilates Can Help You
Practiced consistently, classical Pilates builds strength from the inside out. It develops a strong, supported core, improves posture and spinal mobility, and restores the kind of balanced, efficient movement that makes everyday life feel easier.
Because every session is private and tailored to you, the work meets your body where it is, whether you're recovering from injury, rebuilding strength, easing chronic tension, or simply wanting to move with more freedom and confidence. Clients often find they stand taller, breathe more fully, move with less pain, and feel more at home in their bodies.
It is, at its heart, a practice of precision and care, and that's exactly how it's taught here.
